Complete replacement of signalling systems
During a period from 2012 to 2021, Aarsleff Rail A/S carries out comprehensive renewal work along the Copenhagen S-bane (suburban electrical train). The contract comprises a complete replacement of the present signalling systems of the commuter railway and it is carried out as a sub-contract for Siemens A/S who supplies the new signalling systems. The installation work is carried out in joint venture with Strukton Rail A/S.
Why replace the signalling systems?
About two thirds of the existing signalling systems of the commuter railway are technically outdated and are no longer stable in operation. This means that there is a big risk of delays and breakdown of the train service. With the replacement of the signalling systems, it is expected that almost 80% of the delays caused by signalling failures will be eliminated.
Work carried out in stages
The contract which is carried out in stages until 2021 comprises a complete replacement of the existing signalling systems. During the summer of 2012, we sat up a test section of 1,300 metres where all equipment and solutions were tested. The section was also used as a reference area for our client and customers.
In the spring of 2013 we started on stage 1 which comprises the section from Jægersborg to Hillerød. We sat up five big technical buildings and laid 290 kilometres of cable.
Interlocking system kept in operation
The existing interlocking system is kept in operation during the entire installation period in order not to disturb the train service. The safety aspect is very important and is something we focus highly on during our work along the commuter railway.
